A friend recently shared a blog post with me that really gave me an AHA. It might not have been the blog post as much as it was the reaction that he and another friend had to it. Allow me to explain.

Have you ever received or read the type of blog or email that has an attention grabbing subject line or header? At least ⅔ of the article has a negative tone to it and calls you down for this fault or that flaw.

For some, that can be a real wake-up call and it motivates them to make changes and take action. For many, it disempowers and sends you into a tailspin of self-judgement, criticism and frustration with yourself. That’s exactly what both friends did… they judged and criticized. It did not empower him to take action.

We can be our own worst enemy!

I’m not saying the tactics used in the blog I refer to are wrong. I am saying that it’s important to know, understand and be aware of what works for you and what doesn’t work for you.

What causes you to take action?

If it’s a blog post that berates you, great! I’m glad it’s working for you. If it doesn’t work for you it’s extremely important that you become aware of that and find a better way.

  • unsubscribe from what does not empower you
  • then find what does inspire you to take action
  • and commit to taking one small step, in that direction

Don’t wallow in self-judgement and criticism. It helps no one.

That doesn’t mean that there aren’t some tough questions to ask yourself and address in order to evolve and take action. What it does mean is that you no longer have to tolerate the berating if it’s not effective for you.

Many find empowerment through a nurturing, compassionate and accountable way and that helps you to realize, appreciate and value their strengths, talents and skills.

As I wrote this blog I found myself wondering what motivates people. Different strokes for different folks, right? It started me on a quest to find out what works for others and I want you to benefit from it. So I’m inviting you to a 30-day Motivation Challenge where I share what I learn and ask for your feedback too.

For many, September is a month that seems like a fresh, new year. It’s a new start with our kids going back to school. We’re rested up from the Summer (or we’re ready for a rest from the Summer) and ready to dig in, to accomplish some serious goals before the year ends.

What better way to get into the right mindset to achieve those goals than to get motivated? So it starts on August 22nd.

Make the decision to empower yourself in a way that makes you feel successful and empowers you to take action!

I will share with you Strategies, Quotes, Videos and Quick Tasks to ensure you are inspired and motivated to take action.

Are you ready to get started?

P.S. I’ll be asking for your input too during the 30-Day Motivation Challenge and I will be giving away weekly prizes too! 🙂
